Mathew Giffin, LPC

I believe that it can take a considerable amount of vulnerability and humility to admit to ourselves and to others that we are incapable of overcoming obstacles on our own. Oftentimes, we believe that our struggles are unique and that we bear the sole responsibility for managing ourselves. Through the experience of therapy, we have the opportunity to reestablish our expectations of what it means to seek help and growth. The therapeutic relationship is a safe, non-judgmental space to engage all parts of a person in the pursuit of enduring change in their lives.

My style of treatment involves an eclectic approach to therapy, combining elements from evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with more individualized approaches such as Person-Centered and Narrative Therapy. I have experience providing treatment to adolescents and young adults experiencing a broad range of issues such as anxiety, adjustment, depression, faith-based issues, grief, relationships, suicidal ideation, and trauma. Ultimately, I consider it a privilege to serve each individual in light of the many unique elements that make them who they are.

Specialties:

Anxiety, adjustment, depression, religious trauma, grief, relationships, PTSD, adolescents, young adults

Treatment Philosophy:

As a therapist, I operate with the understanding that every individual is multi-faceted and is an expert in their own life; I consider it an honor to accompany individuals in their journeys toward health, learn their stories, and empower them with the skills to achieve their goals.
