People choose to work with a therapist for different reasons, with different expectations, at different points in their lives. Sometimes people are looking for a counseling experience; they may be going through a difficult period and need support, validation, and guidance. At other times people are wanting a depth therapy experience; they are attempting to understand self-limiting beliefs and self-defeating behaviors, they are ready to face themselves and 'look in the mirror'. Depth work explores how you came to believe what you do about yourself, and explores how those beliefs play out in your life. Then there are times when people are exhausted from anxiety and hypervigilance, they feel worn down from the stress in their body, the tension in their muscles, the nightmares in their sleep, the disconnection from self/from others/from life and from reality. These times call for body-oriented Trauma Therapy. Trauma Therapy works especially well for people with Acute, Chronic, or Developmental Trauma; for people who don't understand what's happening to them; for people with chronic pain and illness; and for people who may not want to talk in therapy (i.e.: Combat Veterans who may not want to share their stories of combat verbally with their therapist). These traumas can be processed through the body without any words being spoken.
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois and California, I have extensive post-graduate training in the treatment of trauma and have earned the additional credential of Certified Trauma Specialist. By nature I am holistically oriented and I utilize a variety of cognitive, somatic, experiential, and energy psychology techniques. My combination of therapy tools includes: Brainspotting. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Emotional Freedom Technique, The Focusing Technique, Psychodrama, Relational Therapy, and TRE Trauma and Tension Releasing Exercise In addition to these therapeutic tools I am trained in the Energy Psychology techniques of Emotion and Body Code, SSP the Safe and Sound Protocol, and the Healy Bioenergetic Resonance device. I am also a Usui Reiki Master.
My clients describe me as compassionate yet firm. I hold great depths of empathy for the suffering of others, while also understanding the importance of self-ownership over our own “stuff” if we wish to heal. I work well with clients who are ready to take an active role in their healing. My specialty populations are trauma survivors, Veterans, people who identify as rebellious or non-conformist, people with iatrogenic injuries in their family, people exploring their spirituality, and anyone who just generally feels like it's a hard time to be on this earth.
I am currently accepting new clients age 18 and up (I do make exceptions and will work with families from the Biomed/vaccine injury community). I offer a free 20 minute video appointment for prospective clients. It is important that your therapist be a good fit for you. If you think we might be a good fit I encourage you to schedule a video chat so that you can interview me before making a therapy appointment.
